Sedgefield forms part of the world renowned Garden Route in the Western Cape and lies between George and Knysna, about 490 kilometres from Cape Town. It is a stunning seaside village surrounded by lakes and covered in sand dunes and fynbos, with pine plantations, the Indian Ocean and the Swartvlei Estuary to keep the locals and visitors happy. You really couldn’t ask for more when it comes to location and to top it off, the climate is extremely mild all year round.
Sometimes referred to as a sleepy village, Sedgefield borders on the Goukamma Nature Reserve and the Wilderness National Park, which leaves residents and visitors spoilt for choice when it comes to bird watching and long walks through the indigenous flora and fauna. East of here lies the only freshwater lake in the district, Groenvlei, which is a popular location for bass fishing.
If you love the outdoors then Sedgefield is definitely a veritable feast of opportunity for all kinds of activities. Swartvlei Lake in the west is one of the largest lakes in the area and forms a safe estuary for swimming and is excellent for fishing. Paragliders also flock here for the annual competition, which usually takes place in September to coincide with the Eastern Cape Yachting Provincials. The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe stops here on its round trip between George and Knysna, which is well worth the ride for the breathtaking scenery along the way. Those interested in Sedgefield property really can’t go wrong here. |
