Pringle Bay is a beautiful seaside village located in South Africa’s Overberg region in the Western Cape. Part of the Kogelberg Biosphere, this reserve is the only one of its kind in the country that has been proclaimed by UNESCO and supports over 1600 species of fynbos, with 150 of these being endemic to the region. Nestled at the foot of the Hangklip Mountain, this particular village is proudly guarded by its residents.
The area is literally stunning and relatively untouched due to the insistence of residents that modern developments are unnecessary. Pringle Bay lies quite far off the main coastal road and is almost entirely within the shadow of the Hangklip, which marks the official southeastern point of False Bay. Its location within a protected reserve means that there are a wide variety of animals and birds that make this area home.
Pringle Bay is just an hour’s drive from Cape Town, which makes it a popular destination for holidaymakers wishing to escape the madness of city life. The bay offers safe swimming, snorkeling around the many rock pools and crevices, as well as the opportunity to dive for abalone, rock lobster or crayfish, although you will need a permit to do so. Other activities including hiking, whale watching or visiting the Jackass Penguin breeding colony at Stony Point. With such a wealth of natural inspiration and entertainment to be had in Pringle Bay, it’s no wonder that property is sought after here. |
