Kleinmond is a picturesque village in the Western Cape’s Overberg region that lies at the small mouth of a lagoon on the Botriver. With the ocean in front and the Palmiet Mountain range behind, it boasts spectacular scenery. The area is within an easy drive of Cape Town along the Clarence Drive coastal road, which also promises some exquisite ocean views along the way. The luxury Arabella Estate is also located here and provides a range of upmarket accommodation.
Located within the Kogelberg Biosphere, Kleinmond has a peaceful atmosphere and is surrounded by a wealth of natural beauty. There are three areas of relic indigenous forest in the biosphere that provide nature lovers with plenty of opportunity for hikes and leisurely walks. Traditionally a retirement village, the area comes to life during the holiday season and is well known for the large numbers of lobster in summer and whale watching in winter.
Kleinmond is believed to house the country’s only herd of wild horses, which can be found in the wetlands near the mouth of the Bot River. They are said to have been abandoned by the British soldiers during the Second World War and roam the river estuary as they please. Visitors and residents have access to safe swimming in the lagoon, a golf course, fishing from the rocks and a variety of caves and rock pools to explore. If you are interested in property in the Overberg then you can’t go wrong with Kleinmond. |
