Herolds Bay is a popular coastal resort located on the Western Cape’s Garden Route that has been a favourite destination for many years. There are old sketches and photographs on display in the George Museum that depict ox wagons overflowing with goods and servants setting up tents on the beach itself. Today, the bay is no less popular and attracts a variety of holidaymakers both local and foreign to take part in the holiday festivities each year.
The little village in Herolds Bay has just fewer than 100 homes, which makes it something of a coastal hamlet similar to Llandudno in Cape Town. While it may not be a buzzing destination, it does offer a complete escape from the madness of the big city life and a chance to really unwind. Residents get to take advantage of the gorgeous sun, sand and sea activities all year round.
Ernie Els’ signature golf course, Oubaai is built around the landscape between the Gwaing River Valley and the ocean and provides an ideal opportunity for golf enthusiasts based in Herolds Bay. The beautiful indigenous fynbos vegetation makes for some excellent walking and hiking trails, as well as the opportunity to bird watch or even spot the odd whale during calving season. There is no doubt that property in Herolds Bay will continue to be popular for years to come. |
