Dana Bay is often regarded as a suburb of Mossel Bay in the Western Cape’s Garden Route region, but it is in fact a conservancy set in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. The area boasts a number of fine coastal and limestone varieties of indigenous fynbos that are under threat from increased levels of global warming. Due to its conservancy status, there is also abundant wildlife in the area, including buck, mongoose and francolin, amongst many others.
The white sandy beach in Dana Bay goes on for miles and is largely untouched, which invites long morning and afternoon walks, as well as sundowner picnics to take advantage of the legendary sunsets. The seaside resort also has access to a variety of restaurants, museums, a harbour and yachting facilities to cater for all walks of life. Residents and visitors have plenty of opportunity to take part in water sport activities or eco adventures.
The airport in George is just 20 minutes away from Dana Bay, which makes it a popular destination for holidaymakers and tourists throughout the year. It is also a perfect spot for whale watching during the Southern Right Whale calving season and schools of dolphins are often sighted along the coast. Hiking enthusiasts can take advantage of the excellent St Blaize trail, which is an easy 13.5 kilometre trek along the seaside cliffs. If you are interested in coastal property in an environment that has been largely preserved then Dana Bay could be just the place. |
